Outlook Add-In Issue with Content Manager Zero Footprint (CM 10.1 and above)

We would like to inform you of a recently identified problem with the Content Manager Zero Footprint Outlook Add-In (version 10.1 or above).

 Executive Summary

Some users of the Content Manager Zero Footprint Outlook Add-In (v10.1+) may see a blank pane when clicking the Record button. This is due to Microsoft’s phased removal of legacy Exchange Online tokens, which began on 17 February 2025.

A temporary fix is to re-enable legacy tokens at the tenant level. This option is available until October 2025. We’ve notified OpenText and recommend applying the workaround if affected while preparing for Microsoft’s upcoming authentication changes.

 Issue description

The issue occurs when users click the Record button in the Content Manager ribbon within Outlook, resulting in a blank white pane. It appears randomly and can affect any user, regardless of User Type. The issue is limited to the Record function—other features like Linked Folders and integrations with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint continue to work as expected.

Cause

The issue is linked to Microsoft's ongoing security updates. On 17 February 2025, Microsoft started a gradual rollout to turn off legacy Exchange Online tokens for all users. Outlook add-ins, such as the Content Manager Zero Footprint Add-In, that rely on these tokens may lose functionality when the tokens are disabled. The rollout is applied per user, so the impact may vary across users within the same organisation.

 Immediate Workaround

To restore the Record button functionality temporarily:

  • Your Exchange Online administrator can re-enable the use of legacy Exchange tokens for your tenant.
  • This workaround is available only until June 2025.
  • Between June and October 2025, organisations may request an exception from Microsoft.
  • After October 2025, the legacy token option will no longer be available.

 Recommended Actions

  1. Share this advisory with your IT team and Exchange administrators.
  2. Apply the temporary workaround if you are affected.
  3. Monitor updates from Microsoft and OpenText for further developments.
  4. Plan for required changes before the October 2025 deadline.

 Next Steps

We notified OpenText about this issue and await formal guidance or a product update. In the meantime, we recommend applying the temporary workaround where needed and preparing for the broader transition in Microsoft’s authentication protocols.
